BENEFITS OF YOGA AND MEDITATION
Home

Yoga
helps you to enjoy life in a healthier body and clearer mind by
toning and stretching muscles while releasing chronic tension.
Yoga poses can be adapted for use by people of any age or fitness level.
Meditation
like yoga, is a powerful tool that works to help us increase our awareness, using techniques for sharpening concentration and mental acuity. Learning to do simple meditation exercises promotes a sense of calm and self-confidence.

Yoga and meditation
have proved to be effective in the treatment of:
  • Back pain
  • Repetitive motion injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis
  • Menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause symptoms
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia and sleep disorders
  • Nicotine addiction
  • Weight management
  • Arthritis

  • WHAT KIND OF YOGA IS TAUGHT? WHAT KIND OF MEDITATION IS TAUGHT?
My yoga classes include elements of two different styles of yoga:
    Iyengar yoga
, which emphasizes precise body alignment, strength,
and flexibility, and Kripalu ("compassion") yoga, which emphasizes
yoga breathing techniques and relaxation.  The use of props specially
developed in Iyengar yoga makes it possible for all students to perform
the poses, and can address specific concerns such as high blood pressure,
arthritis, asthma, pregnancy, premenstrual tension, and other physical
    challenges.
My meditation classes focus on a number of techniques, including mindfulness meditation, a traditional form of meditation known as vipassana or insight meditation made famous by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Mindfulness meditation, different from transcendental meditation, is a practice of observing your thoughts moment-by-moment in a non-judgmental way, noting the feelings and bodily sensations associated with them. This being present in the moment brings you in touch with the deepest part of yourself, and allows you to gain control over your reactions to stressful situations in everyday life.
